Generators are helpful when the power goes out, but it's important to know how to use them safely:


- They should always be outdoors and at least 20 feet away from homes and attached garages.


- Keep them dry and protected from rain or flooding.


- Always connect them to appliances with heavy-duty extension cords.


- Let it cool before refueling.
