"Heat Advisory in effect from Monday (7/7) 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

The Albany County Department of Health recommends the following health tips to keep you safe:

Drinks lots of water

Carry a water bottle with you when you go out. Add a slice of lemon to flavor your water. Avoid alcoholic, hot or sugary drinks as these can make dehydration worse.

Keep your house cool

Open your doors and windows and ventilate your home if you need. Fans or air conditioning is best to keep your home cool. Avoid using your stove and oven when the weather is hot.

Stay out of the sun

Stay indoors when you can or if you go outdoors, use sunscreen and wear a hat. Save chores, exercise, gardening or other activities for early in the morning or in the evening when it is coolest.

Swim safely at the beach

Swim with a friend or family and follow the safety signs. Apply sunscreen. Don't leave children unsupervised at the beach.

Eat healthy foods to stay hydrated

Chilled fruits and vegetables with high water content such as watermelon, cucumber and lettuce are perfect for a hot, sunny day.

Look out for your family and neighbors and never leave children unattended in a closed vehicle!

Stay Cool! Protect your skin and your health!
