🌬️Strong Winds🌬️ Stay safe during windy conditions and while driving!

While Driving:

Maintain a safe distance from high-profile vehicles.

Look out for fallen/falling trees, powerlines, or debris.

Keep a firm grip on the wheel with both hands.

Use caution on bridges and overpasses.

Pull over onto the shoulder if needed, stay in the car with hazard lights on until it's safe to proceed.

Delay Outdoor Activities:

The safest place to be is indoors if there's a wind advisory or high wind warning. ( https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/albany/12210/weather-warnings/329673 )

If Caught Outside Take Shelter:

Take cover next to a building or under a shelter. Keep away from roads or train tracks to avoid being blown into traffic.

Watch Out for Flying Debris:

Use handrails outside and avoid high areas without railings.

Watch for flying debris like tree limbs, signs, and objects from balconies during strong winds.

Report Downed Power Lines:

Report downed lines to your utility emergency center and the police. ( https://www.nationalgridus.com/Upstate-NY-Home/Electrical-Safety/Downed-Power-Line-Safety )

Do not try to free lines or remove debris yourself.

Avoid touching downed lines, vehicles, or tree branches.

If someone is shocked near a power line, do not touch them. Call 911 right away.
